2007 Masters Final Day PreviewThe best thing about the 4 golf majors is the fact that each has a different personality. Unfortunately, Augusta National is playing like a U.S. Open course this year. The only thing missing is Bill Walton, er... Johnny Miller calling every shot hit by a professional "horrible". Miller is just a big ball of sunshine. The difficulty of Augusta this year will actually allow Tiger to do something he has never done before...win a major while coming from behind. I did a search to dig up a post from Digital GolfBlogger last year called Why Tiger Woods Lost His (Green) Jacket. (April 10th to be exact). My whole premise in that piece was that Tiger presses just like everyone else when he has to track down the lead at a major. On the usual major setup, you get buried when you do that. But this week at Augusta, EVERYONE is getting hammered, even on shots that are not that bad. When you do make mistakes, like Stuart Appleby did on 17 on Saturday (I love Stuart, but he put the bone in bonehead with his decision-making), this course is actually unplayable. Appleby could have won the tournament on Saturday. Instead, he opened the door to a certain 4-time Masters winner. When the leader shows he is capable of make a 7 at anytime, Tiger Woods can play as if he is the leader. And that to the fact that every other player backed up on the final 3 holes, and allowed Tiger into the final group...that's trouble for the field. Because Tiger is in the final group, he can play it safe and strangle the life out of a tournament, knowing exactly what he was to do to win. That should get Tiger another blazer on Sunday. Speak to me!
